Projects
Bingham Neighbourhood
Watch has carried out a range of projects over recent years aimed
primarily at (i) providing practical help to our elderly and vulnerable
members (ii) raising funds (iii) promoting and expanding Neighbourhood
Watch in Bingham.
Bingham
SmartWater Project and national award
The
Bingham SmartWater Project came on stream
in October 2007. See our 'News & Events' page for further
details. This is the largest project we have yet undertaken,
and we are extremely grateful to all our sponsors who have made this
possible. Under this project we have been able to sell SmartWater
at a large discount to well over 300 of our members at a large discount. As a result of this project Bingham was chosen as the national Neighbourhood Watch 'Group of the Month' for January 2008 by Neighbourhoodwatch.net in a competition open to all 170,000 groups in the UK.
Project
'Secure'
With financial support from the Rushcliffe
Community Safety Parnership we
provided small-scale security equipment to 50 elderly/vulnerable
residents of Bingham in 2001.
Project 'Keepsafe'
In a jointly-funded enterprise with Nottinghamshire Police during the second half of 2004 and early 2005, with the valued support of the Police Crime Reduction Manager, we identified 14 scheme households across Bingham in need of security updating. Called Project 'Keepsafe', we used qualified locksmiths (see picture) and electricians to provided security updating plus external security lighting for those 14 households. We received generous appreciation from the householders who benefited from this project.
Fundraising by voluntary contributions
In September 2003, through voluntary donations from scheme residents, we raised the impressive sum of £1500. A significant proportion of these funds contributed towards the cost of Project 'Keepsafe' above.
Fundraising quizzes
A Village Quiz competition in 2002, followed by a Family Quiz competition in 2003, both designed and marked by scheme members with entries costing £1 each, raised several hundred pounds for our scheme.
Data L
ink kits
We have distributed Data Link kits to many Bingham residents and we maintain a stock of these should you require further kits for yourself or a friend or relative. Contact us on mail@bingham-watch.com if you require a kit or would like further information.
Car Boot Sale
A car boot sale in April 2002, also providing free cycle coding, raised funds for the scheme.
'Bingham Eye' Newsletter
Between 2000 and 2005 we produced eighteen editions of a professionally-printed quarterly newsletter that was delivered by co-ordinators to scheme households, advertisers and local organisations. 1500 copies of the four-page 'Bingham Eye' were distributed in March, June, September and December each year. The newsletter was financed mainly by advertising revenue.
Letter drops
With the generous assistance of several co-ordinators over the past few years we have
delivered approximately 2000 letters to houses not yet within the scheme, extolling the benefits of Neighbourhood Watch and urging residents to join the scheme. These initiatives have helped to expand the scheme.
Security coding events
We have run several free security coding events
over recent years, usually on Sunday mornings. We also sell security equipment at discount prices to scheme members (see Benefits page for more details).
Audit of street signs
In March 2004 we conducted a survey of missing or damaged NW street signs and, as a result, with the help of the Crime Reduction Manager and borough council, 40 new signs were erected.
